Arrêté de Nomination and Visa

I got my arrêté de nomination, which is essentially my work contract. I will be an assistant at Lycée Lakanal in Sceaux. It is about 30 minutes outside of the center of Paris to the south. It is beautiful and it totally reminds me of Hogwarts! I am almost jealous of myself for getting placed there. I hope that the students and teachers are just as nice as the school looks. The school is a middle school and high school combined, but my contract makes it seem like I will only be working with the high schoolers - I guess I will see.

Of course, I wikipedia-ed and googled the school. I learned that there are 3,000 kids in the school, there are dormitories and that space heaters are used in every classroom. Yes! I'm sure I am going to be so thankful in the winter ... lets just hope that they don't wait until February to start using them. Here is the wikipedia page for Lycée Lakanal and here is the wiki page for Sceaux in case you are curious too.

If I weren't going to school in Paris, I don't think I would mind living in Sceaux, if I could afford it. Apparently it is expensive, although it is gorgeous. There is even a chateau in the park! I have a feeling I am going to spend quite a bit of time there, especially since the park is right next to my school.

I also had my visa appointment yesterday. It went fine. I will hopefully be receiving my visa in the mail shortly. The lady at the consulate gave me an 11 month visa instead of 10. She must have liked me because of my amazing French skills. (Hahaha!) So, it looks like everything is starting to come together.

Next mission: Find a place to live so I can make a list of places to travel :)

Peace

Hi there,

I was looking through your blog and noticed you are from Riverside, Ca. I just graduated from UCR and was wondering if you attended UCR or another university? I will also be a Teaching Assistant in l'Academie de Versailles but I have been placed in a school in the North side, elementary school that is. I'm hoping to be an au pair but am not sure what paperwork is needed and if I am legally able to do it. I am hoping so. Good luck!
